On Saturday evening, Goldenrod Bassmasters celebrated its annual awards gala held at the Fish Market Restaurant Southside. Quaint accommodations and an evening filled with relaxing conversations about the season that was and the expectations of the season to come gave volume to the honorees and their guest.

The evening’s events consisted of paying homage to the history and founders of Goldenrods and its rich legacy , dinner, and the recognition of the accomplishments of this years award recipients including crowning the 2011 Angler of the Year.
Those in attendance witnessed Ron Douglass accept his top ten award in the final Angler of the Year standings, followed by Louis Summerville, Jeff Bobb Sr. and up and coming young gun Jeff Bobb Jr. Aaron Lamar and Eddie Mack Turner’s awards were accepted by Eddie Hill in their absence.
Presentation of awards from sixth thru first place designated Federation Team Qualifiers: Darryl Witherspoon, Eddie Hill, Richard Johnson ,Bryan Butler, Vincent Medlock and Jackie Price respectively.

Highlighting the evening’s events were the presentation of the Big Fish of the Year Award (Eddie Hill), The Goldenrod Award (Louis Summerville) and crowning this year’s champion Jackie Price as Angler of the Year 2011. On this night, jerseys were traded for sports coats and the star studded event provided an opportunity to share with family and friends the joys of the sport of bass fishing. The opportunity to fellowship in a relaxing environment among fierce competitors was not lost in “why we do it”.
